Spiced Winter Fruit Compote

Not your regular fruit compote! This Spiced Winter Fruit Compote is the perfect combination of tangy and sweet. The nutritious dessert delivers all the Christmas flavour and is ready in 25 minutes.

Ingredients

  • 4 clementines (or tangerines)
  • 3 pears
  • 2 oranges
  • 2 tablespoon agave syrup
  • 300 ml water (1 ¼ cups)
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 4 cloves
  • ¼ teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch (optional)

Instructions

  • Peel the clementines and remove the white parts. Halve the pears, remove the kernels and dice. Squeeze the oranges and set the juice aside.
  • Transfer the fruits and orange juice into a pot. Add 300ml of water, the cinnamon stick, cloves, ground ginger and agave nectar. Bring to a boil, stir and cook for about 10 minutes.
  • Sift in cornstarch and cook for another 5 minutes if you want the compote to be a little thicker. Remove from heat and take out the cinnamons stick and cloves.
  • Divide into bowls or glasses and serve warm or cold.

Notes

If not eaten right away, store in the fridge for up to 3 days.
